About Jacob Jones
Early Life and Inspiration
From a young age, I wanted to write however until the age of sixteen I was unable to read let alone write due to my dyslexia. My academics were so bad in school that many teachers warned me that I would not be able to pass high school. While I was barley literate I have always been a great story teller and my love for immersive tales eventually overcame my short comings.
My Path To Writing
I find that the best way that I learn is through inspiration and the first book I ever read from front to back made me want to become a writer. I remember a single line printed on the page in black and white that can still jump out at me vividly.
- Jonathan Livingston Seagull
My Influence
I have always been drawn to the dark and macabre, from horror movies to grim fairy tales I love all things that delve into the darker side of life. As someone who has suffered from depression, I have learned that one of the best way to deal with the void is to write.
I love the work of writers such as Stephen King and Nick Cutter who have a knack for terrifying their readers. While I do love horror authors I also am a fan of writers such as Ben Elton who is a phenomenal witty story teller.
My Current Work and Future
During one of the worst periods of my life, when I was struggling with depression, I shared with my now wife a concept for a story. It was about the first people to land on Mars who were participants in a reality TV show, similar to Big Brother. The catch? There was a murderer on board the station.
My partner suggested I write a short story about it as a way to distract myself from what I was feeling. She even came up with the title, "Don't Be Afraid of Mars."
After four months of work, I finally completed the first draft of the story, and from there, things took off. The rest, as they say, is history.
That short story became a major turning point in my life, leading me down the path of becoming a writer. I'm grateful for my partner's encouragement and support during that difficult time, and for helping me discover my passion for storytelling.
Have you ever wanted something so badly that it kept you awake at night, to the point of hallucinating? That's what happened to me when I began writing War of the Wings.
It all started with a dream that profoundly affected me. I saw angels imprisoned in dungeons, having their wings removed. It left me with the thought that even if beings that were clearly angels came to Earth and saved us, humans would still find a way to persecute them.
From that moment, I was consumed by the idea of writing a book about this world I had seen in my dream. I poured every waking moment I had into finishing it, driven by a passion to bring this story to life.
Now, as the author of War of the Wings, I hope that readers will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. It's a story that's close to my heart, and one that I'm excited to share with the world.
I've always wanted to write a horror book because its my favorite category of literature. I also love traditional African story telling one of the biggest crimes the West committed through colonisation was erasing most of the oral tradition.
That being said one of the scariest stories I have ever heard was an African urban legend about the creature Pinkie.
I decided that this book was going to be semi autobiographical. Some of the themes include being in an interracial relationship, the desperation felt through unemployment and the difficulties in emigration
Imagine confronting the most despicable thing you have ever had to face every day?
Deep In the Garden of Bones is my first straight horror novel and so far my shortest book. It is in production but still in early development.
